Q: Do Volkswagen dealers sell winter tires?

A: Yes, all Volkswagen dealers sell all types of tires including brands such as Pirelli, Goodyear, Dunlop, Continental, Michelin, and many more.

Q: Why is the rear defrost on my Volkswagen shutting off by itself, sometimes even when my back glass is still unclear?

A: Some Volkswagen vehicles have a rear window defogger that switches off automatically approximately 10 minutes after it is switched on. This is to reduce the stress on mechanical components and increases longevity of those parts.

Q: Can I get my Volkswagen serviced at any VW dealer?

A: Yes, you may visit any Canadian Volkswagen dealership for your maintenance or repairs.

Q: Will any Volkswagen dealer honor my warranty?

A: You may visit any of our Volkswagen dealers across Canada.

Q: My Owner’s Manual refers to “lifetime fluids.” When do they have to be replaced?

A: The fluids identified in your vehicle as lifetime fluids should be replaced after 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever occurs first.

Q: My engine malfunction light is on. Can I keep driving my vehicle, or should I have my vehicle towed to my Volkswagen dealer?

A: If the yellow check engine light stays on (not flashing) you may continue to drive the vehicle. Please schedule a visit to the Volkswagen dealer as soon as possible.
If the yellow check engine light is flashing, please pull off to the side of the road safely, and arrange to have the vehicle towed to the dealership.

Q: What is covered under emergency repair?

A: In the event that it is impossible or unreasonable in an emergency to drive or tow the vehicle to the nearest authorized Volkswagen dealer, Volkswagen will review reimbursement to the purchaser the reasonable cost of warranty repairs performed by service facilities other than an authorized Volkswagen dealer. If an emergency repair was performed by a non-Volkswagen service facility, it is important to keep all original receipts, repair orders, and parts removed from your Volkswagen. A statement describing the circumstances which prevented the owner from bringing the vehicle to an authorized Volkswagen dealer is also required. These requirements must be submitted to your preferred dealer in support of a request for possible reimbursement.

Q: What is covered under Roadside Trip Interruption?

A: If your registered Volkswagen vehicle is disabled because of a mechanical breakdown over 160 kilometers from your residence, and the repair is covered under your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, you may be reimbursed for trip interruption expenses if your vehicle cannot be made safely operable the same day. For more information, please see the 24-hour Roadside Assistance brochure supplied with your Owner’s Manual or contact Roadside Assistance at 1-800-411-6688.

Q: Why should I go to my Volkswagen dealer for an accident repair?

A: Your authorized Volkswagen dealer is the best choice for all of your Volkswagen needs. In the case of an accident repair, your Volkswagen dealer will have access to genuine Volkswagen parts for your vehicle. Furthermore, they have the technical knowledge and expertise to repair your vehicle should any further damage to your Volkswagen be noticed.

Q: Will maintaining my vehicle at a Volkswagen dealer increase my resale value?

A: Properly maintaining your vehicle from day one according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and schedule is the surest way to maintain a top resale value. Since automobile technology changes continuously, your Volkswagen dealer has the most current service and maintenance information for your Volkswagen model. Furthermore, knowing that the records of your maintenance are kept under one roof and that genuine parts were used on your Volkswagen will provide you and potential buyers with peace of mind.

Q: My Volkswagen dealer is suggesting shorter maintenance intervals than what is written in my Owner’s Manual. Is this correct?

A: The service intervals schedule in your Owner’s Manual is based on vehicles operating under normal conditions. In the case of severe conditions, such as extremely low temperatures and/or excessive dust, it is necessary for some services to be performed between shorter scheduled intervals. This applies particularly to engine oil changes and the cleaning or replacing of the air cleaner filter element.

Q: What is the Roadside coverage included with my new Volkswagen?

A: Please see section 1.1 of your Owner’s Manual for 24-hour Roadside Assistance coverage for your Volkswagen.

Q: My dealership recommends replacement of my timing belt sooner than indicated in my maintenance interval. Should I follow my dealer’s recommendation?

A: We suggest that you follow your dealer’s recommendations. The maintenance interval in your Owner’s Manual is based on operating a vehicle under normal conditions. Your dealer may make a different recommendation based on the condition of the belt upon inspection.
