Here’s how it works: Turbochargers compress the air used for combustion, enabling the engine to create more power with each firing of the cylinder. Increased fuel injection pressures also pump up the horsepower and torque that the engine generates. And because it’s a diesel, you get greater torque at lower revs than a traditional gasoline engine.
